Former scout Mick Brown has claimed that Liverpool are interested in Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Joao Pedro. However, he suggested that the Reds are unlikely to sign the Brazil international during the winter transfer window.
Brown believes the Merseyside giants might have to make a big offer if they want to sign Pedro in January. Brighton will reportedly demand a huge fee for the 23-year-old, especially if they have to sell him in mid-season.
Brown has also cast his doubts on Pedro's suitability in Arne Slot's side, who are leading both the Premier League and Champions League tables. The former Manchester United scout said, as quoted by Give Me Sport:
"Brighton are going to demand a huge fee for him. I’ve heard there’s some interest from Liverpool, but how far along that interest is, I’m not sure."
Brown added:
"I’d be surprised if it happens in January, given the money it would cost and the sorts of deals which usually take place in the middle of the season. I must admit I’m still uncertain whether he’s the right fit for a side like Liverpool, but that will be up to their scouts to make their assessments."
Joao Pedro has been a key player for Brighton following his reported £30 million switch from Watford in 2023. The versatile attacker has so far made 50 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 24 times while producing six assists.
The Brazilian forward has been used in a number of positions and roles by Fabian Hurzeler this season. He has played as a number nine, number ten, and second striker and has been impressive in every role.
Liverpool plotting a move for Chelsea defender: Reports
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a move for Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto amid uncertainty regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold's future. As claimed by former scout Mick Brown, the Reds view Gusto as a possible replacement for their vice-captain. He told Football Insider, as quoted by Tribal Football:
"Liverpool are making plans for if they lose Trent Alexander-Arnold. They have to have these conversations about where to go to find a replacement. They have Conor Bradley, who has done exceptionally well when called upon, and he will be an important part of their plans."
The former Manchester United scout added:
"But Gusto is very highly rated, and he is someone like their scout who has kept an eye on this season. He's not a given starter at Chelsea either, as when Reece James returns from injury there's a good chance he'll end up on the sidelines. So that gives Liverpool the chance to offer him regular game time, and they will think that could be enough to tempt him to move."
Alexander-Arnold's current contract at Anfield expires in June 2025 and he could potentially leave on a free transfer. The creative full-back has been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid.
