Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has reacted on X after the Red Devils secured a 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City at the Etihad in the Premier League on Sunday, December 15.
Ruben Amorim's men inflicted a fifth loss in seven league games on Pep Guardiola's side. Josko Gvardiol gave the home team the lead in the 36th minute through a close-range header. However, United turned the game around in the second half with two goals in two minutes.
Bruno Fernandes restored parity for his side in the 88th minute from the penalty spot after Matheus Nunes fouled Amad Diallo inside the box. The comeback was completed two minutes later as Amad latched onto a through ball from Lisandro Martinez and beat Ederson to score the winner.
Former Manchester United shot-stopper De Gea reacted on X after the clash. He posted:
"I've seen this movie before," alongside two red circle emojis.
De Gea was likely referring to Manchester United's 3-2 win over the Cityzens at the Etihad Stadium in April 2018. The Spaniard was in goal for United as they completed a remarkable comeback in the second half, having conceded two first-half goals. Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan gave City a 2-0 lead before a brilliant brace from Paul Pogba and a strike from Chris Smalling secured an astonishing comeback win.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who now plays for Serie A side Fiorentina, featured in several Manchester derbies during his time at Old Trafford. He faced Manchester City 28 times across competitions, keeping seven clean sheets.
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount picks up injury against Manchester City
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount suffered another injury setback during his side's clash with Manchester City on Sunday. The 25-year-old was named in the starting XI by manager Ruben Amorim, but had to be subbed off in the 14th minute, with Kobbie Mainoo coming on in his stead.
Mount had just returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The former Chelsea star has featured for just 403 minutes of action in 11 appearances across competitions for the Red Devils this season.
The Englishman's time at Old Trafford has been plagued with multiple recurring injuries. Since his reported £55 million move from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, he has appeared in 31 games for the Manchester club, recording a goal and an assist.
