After setting a new Saudi Pro League goal-scoring record with his brace against Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo stated that he wasn't chasing the feat during the game. The Portuguese superstar scored twice as his side secured a 4-2 win on Monday, May 27.
Ronaldo opened the scoring with a left-footed goal in first-half injury time (45+3'), before adding the second with a header in the 69th minute. He has finished the league season with 35 goals, breaking Abderrazak Hamdallah's record of 34 goals for Al-Nassr in 2018-19.
Reacting to the milestone, Ronaldo said (via Al-Nassr Zone on X):
"I'm very happy today. We finished the season with a victory and an important historical record for me. I wasn't waiting for the number and chasing it, but it was important to me after I got it."
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 44 goals and provided 13 assists in 44 matches this season. Al-Nassr still have a game to go, the Kings Cup of Champions final against Al-Hilal on Friday, May 31.
With his brace, Ronaldo also became the first player to secure the golden boot in four different leagues (SPL, La Liga, Premier League, and Serie A).
Cristiano Ronaldo reacts on social media after Al-Nassr's win
Ronaldo posted a celebratory message on social media platform X after Al-Nassr's win against Al-Ittihad on Monday night. The Portugal captain put on a starring display to lead his side to victory against last season's champions.
Ronaldo motivated his team ahead of the King Cup of Champions final against Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal on May 31. Ronaldo wrote:
"This is Al-Nassr! Let's go to Jeddah."
While Ronaldo has been on fire, the Knights of Najd finished second in the Saudi Pro League, losing the title to Al-Hilal. However, they have the chance to beat Al-Hilal in the upcoming final. Ronaldo scored a brace when Al-Nassr defeated Al-Hilal in the Arab Cup of Champions in pre-season.
