Manuel Ugarte has signalled his ambition and desire to win trophies in his first interview as a Manchester United player. The Uruguayan midfielder made the switch from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that saw the Red Devils pay an initial fee of £42 million (via Sky Sports).

Despite being interested in his services for a while, the Red Devils were locked in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain and needed to sell players in order to make room for him.

With Scott McTominay moving to Napoli and Hannibal Mejbri moving to Burnley, Manchester United made a suitable bid to the Parisians and got their man. It is worth noting that, although he started only 21 games last season, Ugarte made an impressive 98 tackles - the highest in Ligue 1 (via Sky Sports).

Now looking to make his mark in the Premier League, Manuel Ugarte has spoken about signing for the Red Devils. He said to the club's media:

"It is an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude; one that is admired all around the world. The project that the football leadership discussed with me is extremely exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club and I am an ambitious player."
"The passion of supporters is something that is very important to me; I know how incredible United fans are and I cannot wait to experience Old Trafford. I’m someone who is so determined to succeed; I will sacrifice and give everything for my teammates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club needs to be."

Manuel Ugarte will not be available to play in their upcoming match against Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 1, as he has not been registered yet. However, he will be looking to take the league by storm with his defensive attributes after the international break.

Erik ten Hag shares mixed feelings on Scott McTominay's exit from Manchester United

In a deal which was linked to United signing Ugarte from PSG, the Red Devils have sold Scott McTominay to Serie A giants Napoli for a reported £25 million.

However, manager Erik ten Hag is not too pleased about having to let McTominay go. He shared his mixed feelings about the midfielder's exit during a press conference, saying (via Football 365):

"It’s a little bit mixed, I’m very happy for him. It’s also (a good deal) for us, but it is mixed because I wouldn’t prefer to lose him because he’s Manchester United in everything. He was so important for our team, for Manchester United, but unfortunately it’s the rules."
"We have to discuss the rules, when you have to sell and obviously homegrown and academy players bring more value, that’s not the right thing to do."

Erik ten Hag will be hoping that Manuel Ugarte, who is expected to replace Casemiro in the starting lineup, can exceed expectations. McTominay, on the other hand, will be hoping for an impressive start to life with Napoli in Italy.
