Real Betis shot-stopper Adrian has opened up on what former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah has told him about working under Reds head coach Arne Slot.
Earlier this May, Jurgen Klopp left his role as the Reds' manager after an excellent stint of around nine years. Afterwards, Slot was named as the German's successor after the Dutchman signed a three-year deal.
Adrian, who joined Real Betis after the end of his Reds contract earlier this month, stated that Salah has told him that he is relishing working under Slot. The 37-year-old told The Athletic (h/t SPORTbible):
"I speak almost every day with many of the squad — Kostas Tsimikas, Mo Salah. They tell me they like it, the ideology is the same as with Jurgen [Klopp]. To be intense, direct, play with pace, press high, be brave. Liverpool's squad is made for that. So the new coach will know how to adapt well to the players he has. And I wish him the best."
During his three-year stint at Feyenoord before joining Liverpool, Slot earned fame owing to his high-pressing style of play. The 45-year-old helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup as well.
Arne Slot drops Liverpool transfer hint
During a recent press conference, Arne Slot was asked to opine on his team's lack of transfer activity in the ongoing summer window. He responded (h/t The Echo):
"The first aim is to work with these players. The disadvantage is that many of them aren't here yet. The positive is that there is an important lifeline of the club, youngsters coming into the team. It is an ideal way of seeing them in these weeks when they get a lot of playing time as well. Our standards are really high when it comes to bringing in new players because we have a good squad."
Slot, who lost just 24 of 148 games as Feyenoord's boss, concluded:
"Of course, [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] and I and other people are trying to improve the squad. If you inherit a team that's really good, it's not so easy to find players who are even higher especially because those ones need to be available as well. Richard more than me is working really hard on that. He keeps me updated on that. If there's any news on that, we will come to you."
So far this summer, Liverpool are yet to rope in a new player.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will kick off their United States pre-season tour with a friendly tie against Real Betis in Pittsburgh this Friday (July 26).
