Manchester United target Sverre Nypan has spoken about his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo amidst a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. As per Fussball News journalist Christopher Michel, United made inquiries about the 17-year-old in April, and Nypan apparently harbours a dream to play for them.
In a recent interview, the highly rated Rosenborg youngster admitted that putting on the jersey of United, not as a fan but as a player, would be a dream come true for him.
Nypan revealed the particular moment that made him a Manchester United fan. He recalled falling in love with the Premier League outfit after watching Robin Van Persie's stunning volley against Aston Villa in 2013 (via unitedinfocus.com).
“My first memory is when Van Persie scored against Aston Villa in 2013. Me and a mate were ecstatic and went straight to the park to reconstruct the goal.”
The Norweigan also spoke about his love for United's legendary forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who is his idol. Speaking about his admiration for the Portuguese, Nypan said:
“I’m a Ronaldo fan. That’s his mentality; Every time the team needs a score, he scores. If anyone thinks something about him, he proves the opposite. He’s always like that.”
The Norweigan prodigy will have the opportunity to face his cherished club this summer.
Manchester United face Rosenborg in their first pre-season friendly on July 15. Nypan will look to impress against the Red Devils, much like a young Ronaldo did in 2003 for Sporting Lisbon.
Sverre Nypan compares himself with Ander Herrera over idol Cristiano Ronaldo
Nypan might be a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan, but the 17-year-old sees himself less like the Portuguese and more like former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
When asked to mention the former Manchester United player who he has tailored his skills after, Nypan was quick to name Herrera, who plays for Athletic Bilbao.
“Ander Herrera maybe. He was a good and solid player who did the job, ran a lot, covered space and was good with the ball.”
Nypan became the youngest player to play for Rosenborg when he made his professional debut in 2022 aged 15 years and 322 days.
In 2023, he became the youngest player in club history to score in a league match at 16 years and 145. Last season, he scored two goals and provided five assists in 13 appearances in the Eliteserien.
