“If you ask me, I will tell you what I think” - Enzo Maresca makes feelings clear about Chelsea being involved in title race after win over Brentford

Enzo Maresca remains insistent that despite their position, Chelsea are not ready yet to challenge for the Premier League title. The Italian boss has made his feelings clear on his side's title chances.

The Blues closed the gap to just two points behind league leaders Liverpool after a strong 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday (December 15). While the Bees had four big chances and were dangerous on the counter, Maresca's side largely dominated.

Chelsea registered 26 shots and won eight corners during the fixture. The Blues took the lead just before the break from Marc Cucurella's header, courtesy of Noni Madueke's assist.

Nicolas Jackson scored their second in the 80th minute after connecting with Enzo Fernandez's excellent through ball. Ten minutes later, Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for Brentford but the hosts secured all three points.

Maresca, on multiple occasions, has insisted this season that Chelsea are not in a title race. But with the Blues just two points behind in the second, the Italian boss can't seem to escape being quizzed on the matter.

When asked about the title race after the Brentford win, Maresca said (via Fabrizio Romano on X):

“For me, we are NOT ready. You can talk about the title and the fans can dream about the title… absolutely. If you ask me, I will tell you what I think. We’re not ready but we are happy the fans can dream”.

Liverpool do have a game in hand over the west Londoners since their clash against Everton that was scheduled for December 7 was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Nicolas Jackson has replied with an amusing quip when asked about the Premier League title race after Chelsea's win over Brentford.

The Senegalese forward has been in great goalscoring form for the West Londoners this season, netting nine in the league so far. He was on target against Brentford as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Jackson was told that the Blues were just two points behind Liverpool, to which the striker replied (via One Football):

"Really? I didn't know that they are two points ahead."

He added on a more serious note:

"I'm just trying to win every game and trying to focus on the next one. I don't look at the table."

Jackson then smiled at the camera and continued:

"I don't know what a title race [is] to be honest!"

Before he concluded:

"No, I know but I'm just saying I don't even look at the table. We just focus game by game and try to win as much as possible."
