Jamie Carragher has said that he would have fined Darwin Nuez if he was the Liverpool manager after an incident against West Ham United. He believes that the foul committed by the forward in the EFL Cup on September 25 was unnecessary and needs to be stopped.

After the match, Carragher claimed that Nunez needs to be fined for making needless fouls. He added that it would have been done by now if he was the Liverpool manager to ensure the players stayed in check. He said:

“That’s a clumsy foul. Yeah, I mean we’ve already seen one at the other end but Nunez there….honestly. It’s the one thing in football I’ll never be able to get my head around when I see someone just run straight into the back of someone, going absolutely nowhere.
"I think there should be a fine for that, honestly I do. If I was a manager I would fine players for that.”

Liverpool thrashed West Ham United 5-1 in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield. They will now take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round.

Darwin Nunez was warned about his Liverpool future by Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher had admitted earlier this year that he has lost patience with Darwin Nunez. The Liverpool legend claimed that the forward has not improved as expected and it would not have been a surprise if the club sold him. He said:

“I think there is a question to ask. You want him to do well because there is so much that you like because he gives everything, he runs and causes trouble and gets the odd goal and gets an assist. But after two years when Liverpool this season are going to the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta."
"There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the business end. In terms of Nunez and where the club go forward now, we have all been in squads where someone comes in and maybe you talk about the first year and maybe say, okay he’s getting up to speed with and he’s improving, and it looked like he was at the start of the season.
"But it has ground to a halt. You are looking at it now and after two years, I don’t think there is going to be a massive improvement in him," he added.

Darwin Nunez has played 102 matches for the Reds since arriving from Benfica in 2022, scoring 34 goals and assisting 18 times. He has picked up 13 bookings during his time and has sent off once.
