Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has predicted that veteran midfielder Casemiro will be keen to listen to transfer offers this month. The Brazil international has mostly warmed the benches for the Red Devils since the start of the 2024-25 season and under Ruben Amorim.
Casemiro was overlooked by Amorim during the FA Cups third round win over Arsenal, with academy graduate Toby Collyer coming on as a substitute while he remained on the bench.
Ferdinand spoke about the situation on his YouTube channel, pointing out that the Brazilian midfielder will surely be unhappy with how things are going.
Ferdinand said via Metro:
"Is the player happy to be on the bench? I don’t think Casemiro will be happy. At any point in his career he’s never been on the bench. So if he’s on the bench now, if an offer came in, he’d listen to it, but also the club, you can see now they are bringing on Toby Collyer. If they get an offer they require, that they want, I don’t think it will be something that will be difficult to happen. If he wants to go and play football, who are we to stand in his way at this stage of his career."
Casemiro has not seen a minute of action in Manchester United's last two games, a draw against Liverpool at Anfield and a shootout win over Arsenal at the Emirates. This follows after a disappointing performance from him and the rest of his teammates in the 0-2 defeat to Newcastle United at home.
Casemiro joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in 2022 for around £70 million but has consistently struggled to perform since the start of the 2023-24 season. He has managed only 22 appearances for the club this season, scoring three goals.
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to Saudi, where a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo is on the cards at Al-Nassr.
Manchester United set to receive formal approach for out-of-favour star - Reports
Manchester United are prepared for a formal approach for the signature of forward Marcus Rashford from AC Milan, as per Sky Sports. The Rossoneri appear to be ready to submit a proposal to sign the England international this month.
Rashford has fallen out of favor at Manchester United, with coach Ruben Amorim revealing that he does not know if the forward will play for the club anymore. The 27-year-old is yet to appear on the pitch in each of his side's last seven games and is prepared for a move elsewhere this month.
AC Milan are leading the race to sign Rashford after his agent and brother Dwaine Maynard held talks with them. They are now looking to make an offer to sign the forward after holding initial talks with his club.
