Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca opened up about what it's like to work with Cole Palmer. The England international has been a standout performer for the Blues in the last year-and-a-half since joining the club from Manchester City.
Palmer came to Stamford Bridge from the Cityzens for a reported fee of €47 million in the summer of 2023. Since then, he's made 62 appearances across competitions, bagging 36 goals and 21 assists.
The left-footed attacking midfielder has carried his form from last season into the 2024-25 campaign, netting 11 times and assisting six in 15 Premier League matches. Maresca recently said about working with Palmer (via Fabrizio Romano):
"I feel very proud and privileged to work with Cole Palmer. He's a different one, for sure. He loves football! If you see many big players, they don't look flustered. They look almost like they don’t care about nothing. Then he cares, he loves the game."
Palmer has heavily contributed to Chelsea's thrilling attacking displays in the league this year alongside the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke. The Blues have scored the most goals this campaign (35) and sit second in the standings. They are four points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Up next for Maresca and Co. in the English top flight is a home game at Stamford Bridge against Brentford on Sunday, December 15.
Thomas Tuchel responds to claims suggesting that Chelsea's Cole Palmer could be the best in the world
Newly appointed England coach Thomas Tuchel was quick to shut down suggestions that Chelsea's Cole Palmer could be among the best in the world. However, he did praise the attacker's abilities on the football pitch and stated that there's room to grow.
It is likely that Palmer will be a part of the German coach's plans in the near future. The former Blues manager said to Sky Sports (via Metro):
"That’s a bit too far, going into individual players. But he is definitely on form everyone would agree on that hopefully he can still grow and keep the level up and then everything will be fine."
"Everyone enjoys watching him. He is cool, he is composed, he is very clinical in finishing and assisting."
Palmer has received 11 caps across competitions for The Three Lions and scored two goals, assisting one. He also netted England's only goal in the 2-1 Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
