Real Madrid set to boycott Ballon d'Or gala over Vinicius Junior snub
According to a report by ESPN, Real Madrid are set to boycott the Ballon d'Or gala after Vinicius Junior missed out on the prize. The Brazilian star was widely expected to claim the prize in Paris but has reportedly missed out on the award to Manchester City star Rodri.
Vinicius Jr was pivotal to his side's continental double last season and stood out as one of the most scintillating forwards in the world. Rodri on the other hand was the rock Pep Guardiola's side proceeded from, helping the English Champions retain the Premier League and his nation to the Euro 2024 crown this summer.
Los Blancos are reportedly furious that the Brazilian missed out on the award after his exploits with the team and will not send a delegation to Paris as a result. The Selecao star will be disappointed to miss out on the award, he would have been the first man from his nation since Kaka in 2007 to claim the award.
The Real Madrid star has continued his fine run of form this season and has bagged eight goals and seven assists from 15 games.
