Tennis star Alexander Zverev has made a humorous appeal to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard watched him at Wimbledon on Saturday. The German World No. 4 claimed a straight-set win over British star Cameron Norrie to reach the Round of 16.
City manager Guardiola has spent the summer watching different sports, having earlier been a guest of the Boston Celtics in the NBA. Having led his club to an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title in 2023-24, the Spaniard returned to England to watch tennis at Wimbledon.
Pep Guardiola was one of the sporting icons in attendance at the Wimbledon Centre Court and watched Zverev from the Royal Box. Following his triumph over home-favourite Norrie, the German sent a message to Guardiola, asking him to return to German giants Bayern Munich or coach him.
"When I saw Pep I got so nervous for a few games there. Thanks a lot for coming. Bayern Munich needs a coach, man. And if you're tired of football, you can coach me on the tennis court anytime."
Alexander Zverev seemed to be unaware that the Bavarian giants have appointed Vincent Kompany, a former player of Guardiola. The German star didn't look like he needs a great deal of coaching despite asking for the services of the legendary manager.
The Bayern Munich fan overcame British number two Norrie 6-4 6-4 7-6 to proceed to the next round. He had a brief chat with the Manchester City boss before addressing the crowd.
Former Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson was in attendance, as was Arsenal and England women's star Leah Williamson and Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Pep Guardiola eyes Joao Neves as summer addition
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Benfica youngster Joao Neves ahead of the 2024-25 season, as per TEAMTalk (via Hard Tackle). The Portuguese youngster is on the radar of many clubs in Europe.
Neves, 19, replaced Enzo Fernandez in the Benfica squad after the Argentine joined Chelsea for £105 million in 2023 and has not looked back since then. The teenager has a similar release clause of £105 million in his contract following a strong season, which earned him a place in Portugal's Euro 2024 squad.
Manchester City are looking to freshen up their midfield, particularly with Kevin De Bruyne being linked with an exit. With Manchester United also interested, they may look to move swiftly for Neves this summer.
