Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has issued a cheeky response after being left out of Amazon Prime Video's list showing the best centre-backs in the Premier League. The French centre-back has been a regular for Arne Slot's side this season as they sit atop the Premier League standings.
US-based streaming service Amazon Prime Video posted a poll on Instagram showing four Premier League defenders and asked who is the league's best centre-back. The four players shown were Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk, Arsenal's William Saliba, and the Manchester City duo of John Stones and Ruben Dias.
In the comments, a fan asked why France international Konate was omitted, which prompted a cheeky response from the defender. He implied that the compilers of the list were probably unaware of his existence in the Premier League.
"@mike.onhisbike in Bundesliga maybe," Konate wrote.
Ibrahima Konate has been a Liverpool player since leaving Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for Anfield back in 2021. The 25-year-old was rotated with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in his first days at the club before establishing himself as a starter, and has gone on to play 106 times for the Reds.
Konate has already appeared 16 times for Arne Slot's side this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He has helped his side keep nine clean sheets across all competitions this season.
Besides playing a key role for the Reds, Konate has also been important to the French national team. The defender captained his country to victory over Italy in their UEFA Nations League Group stage finale, sporting the armband for the first time in his career.
Liverpool star Konate being considered for France captaincy after win over Italy - Reports
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate staked his claim to become the permanent captain of the French national team after captaining the side against Italy at the San Siro. The 25-year-old wore the captain's armband as Les Bleus picked up a 3-1 victory over Italy to top their group and qualify for the quarterfinals of the Nations League.
With skipper Kylian Mbappe unsettled in the national team over certain issues off the pitch, Konate has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the Real Madrid star. Reports in France indicate that manager Didier Deschamps is set to hold talks with Mbappe over the captaincy, and he may strip the ex-PSG man of the armband.
L'Equipe named Konate, alongside Aurelien Tchouameni and N'Golo Kante, as the potential replacements for Mbappe as captain.
