Director insists Serie A club don't want to sign ex-Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.

Lazio's sporting director Angelo Fabiani has claimed that the Serie A club are not interested in signing former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez. The Colombia national team captain has reportedly terminated his contract with Brasileirão club Sao Paulo and is planning on returning to Europe.

The 33-year-old star played an important role in Colombia ending up as runners-up in the 2024 Copa America, scoring one goal and providing six assists in the tournament. He was named the Best Player of CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.

While his performance in the tournament can potentially bring him offers from prominent European clubs, Lazio's sporting director Angelo Fabiani stated the club don't want to sign him due to his age. While speaking on the club's official radio, Fabiani said (via GOAL):

"Excellent player, but he's over 33 and in recent seasons, in his club teams, he's played a maximum of 10-12 games."

La Liga club Rayo Vallecano, who are celebrating their centenary this year and plan to make a marquee signing, are interested in signing James Rodriguez, as per Marca. The club, led by chairman Martín Presa, have reportedly acknowledged the financial complexities involved in making the deal, while other Spanish clubs like Celta are also interested in the former Real Madrid star.

Inter Miami reportedly interested in signing former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami are reportedly keen on signing former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez. The Argentine icon and the Colombian star have been pitted against each other during their tenures at Barcelona and Los Blancos, respectively.

Rodriguez has been linked with a move to the MLS club for a while, and a move could be possible this summer transfer window, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Rodriguez broke one of Lionel Messi’s records after providing his sixth assist against Uruguay in their Copa America 2024 semifinal. He became the first player to register six assists in a single campaign in the competition’s history.
