Alan Shearer has weighed in on whether Arsenal can still win the Premier League title following their 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday (November 10). The Englishman insists that he won't write the Gunners off just yet as he believes they're capable of going on a decent run and challenging for the prize.
After failing to win their last three Premier League games prior to the weekend, Arsenal traveled to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, knowing fully well they needed to secure a victory.
However, they couldn't get the better of their London rivals and had to settle for a 1-1 draw as a result, with Gabriel Martinelli and Pedro Neto scoring for the two sides. That result meant that the Gunners' title hopes took another hit but Alan Shearer doesn't think they should be written off just yet.
After Gary Lineker noted that Arteta's men are now nine points off the summit, the Premier League icon said on The Rest is Football podcast:
“Yeah, it’s a lot. But I think they’re capable of going on a really good run. And you would hope, from their point of view, they’ve got through their injuries a couple of weeks back, come back after the international break and go on a four or five-game run where they can win every game and they can do that."
“So I wouldn’t rule Arsenal out just yet. I think it was a decent result for them today, getting their point – it would have been a disaster if they had been beaten. But getting their point, I still wouldn’t rule them out,” added the former Newcastle United striker.
Arteta will be left scratching his head after yet another toothless display from his men. The Gunners created multiple chances during the game but could only take one of them.
How Arsenal have fared in the Premier League so far this season
The 2024-25 Premier League season isn't going according to plan for Arsenal. The Londoners have endured quite a frustrating run over the last couple of weeks, with their performances and results producing more questions than answers so far.
Since the campaign kicked off, Mikel Arteta's men have played 11 games in the English top flight, recording five victories, four draws and two defeats. They've also scored 18 goals and conceded 12 and are fourth in the table with 19 points.
Following the international break, the Gunners will go head-to-head with Nottingham Forest in a league encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, November 23.
