Frenkie de Jong to Bayern Munich?

Ruud Gullit has urged Frenkie de Jong to leave Barcelona as soon as possible. He believes that a move to Bayern Munich suits the Dutchman as he should not be sitting on the bench.

Speaking to SPORT, Gullit stated that De Jong is in his prime and should not be wasting it on the bench. He wants the former Ajax man to leave Barcelona and move to the Bundesliga, as Bayern Munich would be perfect for him. He said (via Barca Blaugranes):

“I hope he finds a solution. I hope he gets a club that suits him so that he can leave Barça. It’s time to look for something else. Which club would be perfect? Bayern. Bayern would be perfect for Frenkie. It would be fantastic for them. I would like De Jong to play football again. He should not sit on the bench. He is 27 years old and in his best years. This situation must change now.”

When quizzed about a possible move to the Saudi Pro League, Gullit stated that there was noise but he does not think the Barcelona star will make the move to the Middle East. He said:

“There is a lot of noise. That is something normal in the world of soccer to talk about offers and more with a player who has no minutes. I think the Saudi clubs should also probe his incorporation because he is a great player.”

Manchester United have been linked with the Dutchman for a long time, but with Erik ten Hag sacked at Old Trafford, the Red Devils might cool their interest. Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with the Dutchman as well, but nothing concrete has happened.

When Frenkie de Jong confirmed he could leave Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong spoke to Voetbal International earlier this month and confirmed that he is not planning to stay at Barcelona if things do not improve. He wants to play regularly and added that he will take the call about leaving if he feels like he cannot deliver at the club. He said (via GOAL):

"People think I want to stay at Barcelona forever because life outside of football is so good here, and that's good, but what happens on the pitch is always more important. If I felt like I couldn't contribute enough, or if the team wasn't competitive, I would leave."

However, he wants to win more trophies at the club before calling it quits. He added:

"When I signed for Barcelona, I didn't imagine to win only a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup after 4 years. I expected at least double, so that disappoints me. Things happen on the road you can't predict.”

De Jong has not been a regular under Hansi Flick, mainly because of his ankle issue. The German manager has preferred Pedri and Gavi, but the Dutchman is now back to full fitness.
