Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. recently opened up about reuniting with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez amid Inter Miami transfer links. While Messi and Suarez are currently with the MLS side, Neymar is still under contract with Al-Hilal until June 2025.
The attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez is considered one of the greatest in football for their time at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017. Often referred to as MSN (Messi, Suarez, Neymar), the trio became crucial to the Catalans' winning the treble in the 2014-15 season.
Their partnership ended in 2017 when Neymar Jr. left to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a record €222 million transfer fee. While the MSN trio have not reunited since then, Neymar and Lionel Messi shared the pitch once again for PSG between 2021 and 2023.
In a recent interview with CNN Sport, Neymar Jr. was asked whether he would like to reunite with his former teammates in the future. The Brazilian superstar said (via GOAL):
"Obviously, playing again with Messi and Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends. We still speak to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio. I’m happy at Al-Hilal, I’m happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows. Football is full of surprises."
The Selecao superstar added:
“When the news came out that I was leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the transfer window was closed in the United States, so I didn’t have this option. The project they offered me (in Saudi Arabia) was very good, not just for me but also for my family, so going to Saudi Arabia was the best option.”
With Neymar entering the final six months of his contract with Al-Hilal, he has been heavily linked to a potential transfer to Inter Miami. The star forward has been injured due to an ACL tear for the majority of his stint at Al-Hilal but is nearing his recovery now.
"We will not hesitate" - Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas claims he would love to reunite Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr.
In a December 2024 interview with GiveMeSport (h/t Football Transfers), Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas mentioned that he wouldn't hesitate to reunite Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr.
"The key word is if he were to become available. He [Neymar] is an Al-Hilal player now. He's not available to us. I have always said we aspire to bring great players to our team. We have a lot of roster limitations and restrictions, but we have an unlimited budget," Mas said.
“We are aspirational. If there is ever a chance to bring the caliber of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here," he added.
Neymar Jr. has notably shared 67 joint-goal contributions with Lionel Messi in 206 appearances for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. This marks the highest number of joint-goal contributions he has shared with any player in his career.
Messi's numbers are followed by Kylian Mbappe (54 contributions in 136 appearances) and Luis Suarez (40 contributions in 124 appearances).
