Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka recently stated that their 3-2 victory over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday "means everything" to the club and the players.
The Gunners were favourites to win going into the clash and started off the Premier League match as league leaders. Mikel Arteta's men took the lead through Pierre-Emile Højbjerg's own goal in the 15th minute.
Saka scored the second goal in the 27th minute, while former Chelsea forward Kai Havertz netted the third goal for the Gunners in the 38th minute. Spurs, on the flip side, had several chances in the first half. Cristian Romero hit the pole during a set piece in the first half, but scored the first goal for Spurs following a mistake by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya in the 64th minute.
Son Heung-min scored the second goal for Ange Postecoglou's side in the 87th minute through a penalty. However, the Gunners emerged victorious in the north London derby.
While reacting to their crucial win in the race for the Premier League title, Bukayo Saka said (via Sky Sports):
"We know what it means to the fans & what it means to us, so we’re delighted... It means everything!"
The Gunners will face Bournemouth in their next match on May 4, Saturday.
Arsenal are in pole position to lift their first Premier League title in over two decades
Arteta's men have been ruthless in their pursuit of what will be their first Premier League title in over two decades. Their ruthlessness was visible in their 5-0 mauling of Chelsea last week.
The three-horse race for the PL title, however, has come down to two teams as Liverpool dropped points yet again in their draw against West Ham United on Saturday.
The Gunners, on the flip side, have catapulted from their shattering defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League (UCL). The Gunners look full of energy and have been pretty clinical in front of goal.
They currently occupy the first spot on the Premier League table, having mustered 80 points after 35 games. Liverpool are third on the table with 75 points after 35 games. Manchester City have 76 points and have played 33 games.
Arsenal will be hoping Pep Guardiola's men drop points in their subsequent matches to keep their hopes of ending their Premier League title drought alive.
