Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot has opened up on being named the Players' Player of the Year at Old Trafford in the 2023-24 season. Despite being a right-back, Dalot often had to deputize on the left flank, as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were unable to participate due to injury.
The defender performed well across the season, playing 50 games in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing five assists. His goal and two assists in six FA Cup games helped the Red Devils win the trophy, and his hard work impressed his teammates, who named him their Player of the Year.
Speaking about the award during an interview with Manchester United's matchday program United Review, Diogo Dalot told club reporter Joe Ganley (via club website):
"Yeah, definitely. I would say it was probably one of the proudest moments that I had at this club, especially because it was a recognition from my teammates, those who I spend the most time with. Apart from my family!"
"They see me every day, they see the work that I put in every day, and that recognition is also a proud moment for me because it makes me feel that I’m doing the right things. It was special."
This season, Diogo Dalot has been a regular for Manchester United, playing all eight of their Premier League games and providing one assist. Across all competitions, he has played 12 games.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag pleased with comeback against Brentford
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has stated he is happy with how his team played in their 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford. When the Red Devils welcomed the Bees to Old Trafford on October 19, the visitors scored in the first half through Ethan Pinnock (45+5').
An impressive second-half turnaround and goals from Alejandro Garnacho (47') and Rasmus Hojlund (62') saw United eventually win 2-1. Speaking to the press after the game, Ten Hag said (via BBC):
"For everyone, it was an enjoyable afternoon. In the second half, we showed we are together. We showed determination and we scored two beautiful goals."
He added:
"This team has the capacity to score very good goals. Today, the two goals we scored were high quality and when you score and win you add confidence.
"At the start of the season, we had some good performances but didn’t score enough, then everyone is negative. This result can help us, but it is only one win and we must build on it."
Manchester United will now travel to Turkey for their Europa League clash against Fenerbahce on October 24 at the Sukru Saracoglu.
