Arne Slot tells Trent Alexander-Arnold to follow Liverpool legend

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has urged Trent Alexander-Arnold to emulate club legend Steven Gerrard and reject Real Madrid. The England international has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, with Los Blancos named as his potential destination.

The creative full-back has entered the final six months of his contract at his boyhood club and there have been contradictory reports regarding his future. Several reports claim that he has already decided on joining the Spanish capital club on a free transfer in the summer.

Carlo Ancelotti's side reportedly made an offer to Liverpool to sign Alexander-Arnold this month. However, the bid was swiftly rejected by the Merseyside giants.

Recent reports from the English media claim that the Reds are looking to do everything in their powers to tie down their academy graduate with a new deal. Now, Arne Slot has claimed that it is not hard to snub a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Steven Gerrard, arguably the greatest player to don the Liverpool shirt, rejected Real Madrid and several other top clubs to stay at Anfield. Slot has urged Alexander-Arnold to follow his idol's footsteps and cement his legacy at the club. The Reds' manager said, as quoted by Tribal Football:

"I think there was a particular player they would have loved to see come to Madrid. He never moved there. So how do you say no to Real Madrid? It's already happened."

Steven Gerrard came through the youth ranks of Liverpool and made 710 appearances across 17 seasons. He scored 186 goals and provided 155 assists for the club and won nine trophies and was the club's shining light in their darkest years.

Alexander-Arnold has also come through the Reds' esteemed youth ranks and has already made 333 appearances since making his debut in 2016. Currently the vice-captain of his boyhood club, he has scored 20 goals and provided 85 assists for the club and has won eight trophies.

Liverpool offer Trent Alexander-Arnold a lucrative deal amid Real Madrid links: Reports

Liverpool have reportedly offered their star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold a new deal to stave off interest from Real Madrid. As reported by Mirror, the Reds have offered Alexander-Arnold a deal worth £78 million for the next five years. They believe that the offer will be enough to convince the boyhood Red to commit his future at Anfield.

The report claims that Real Madrid have offered the Englishman a deal worth £300,000 per week and will offer him a hefty signing-on fee. Los Blancos view him as the long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, now aged 32.
