Chelsea forward Jadon Sancho shared his thoughts after their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The two sides created multiple chances in their Premier League clash but had to settle with a point each.
Cole Palmer scored the opening goal for the Blues in the 14th, converting from an excellent assist from Sancho. Jean-Philippe Mateta equalized for the hosts in the 82nd minute. It marked the fourth game in a row where Chelsea have dropped points in the Premier League.
After the game, Sancho shared his frustration at the draw, saying (via Tribal Football):
"It's very annoying not to get the three points. You have to take your chances and if you don't, it's never over. To concede that goal, right at the end, is very frustrating.
"I'm very happy to improve my football. I've felt good since day one here and the staff and players have welcomed me. I just have to show 100% on the pitch. There's still a long way to go this season. Today was a frustrating day, but we move on and learn from it."
Chelsea signed Sancho from Manchester United last summer on loan with an obligation to buy. He has scored two goals and provided six assists in 16 games across competitions for them.
Enzo Maresca asserts he's more focused on Chelsea's performances rather than the table after Crystal Palace draw
The Blues had an excellent start to the 2024-25 season under Enzo Maresca but have failed to win any of their last four games. They have two draws and two defeats in their previous four games and have slipped to fourth place in the table.
After their draw against Crystal Palace, Enzo Maresca said that he's more focused on assessing their performance rather than thinking about the table. He said (via Chelseafc.com):
"For me it’s not about the table, it’s just about seeing how we can improve things and today for me the performance was very good, on the ball and off the ball. But this moment of the season is going to happen for any team in any season, that you have some moment when you are not able to win games.
"Every game is different, sometimes it is for one reason, other times a different reason. Today if I have to decide the reason why we didn’t win the game, I think it is just about trying to be clinical when you have the chance to kill the game, because at 2-0 the game is probably finished.
"If you continue to be open at the end, you are going to concede some transitions, some corners, and then you can concede a goal."
Chelsea will next face Morecambe at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, January 11.
