Marcus Rashford has admitted that he was disheartened after getting dropped from the Manchester United squad for the Manchester City clash. He added that he wants to move on from the situation as the club managed to win the match on Sunday.
The Red Devils secured a 2-1 win in their Premier League clash at the Etihad, thanks to late goals from Bruno Fernandes (88') and Amad Diallo (90').
Speaking to Henry Winter, Rashford claimed that he has learned how to deal with setbacks, and it was just another one for him on Sunday. He added that he will be doing his best to get back into the team soon and said:
"It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby, but it’s happened, we won the game so let's move on. It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available."
Apart from Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho was also dropped from the squad by Ruben Amorim. The Manchester United head coach claimed that he was not happy with how the duo trained ahead of the match.
Gary Neville wants Manchester United duo to bounce back after setback
Manchester United legend Gary Neville sent a message to the duo of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, urging them to take the derby day drop on the chin. He wants them to get better in training and earn their place back in the starting XI. He said on Sky Sports:
"I don't know about their long-term future but what is really clear is he mentioned engaging with teammates, standards, so he has given us clues, emphatic clues, as to what has happened in the last few days that they have been moping and not doing their bit around the training ground, not engaging with their teammates properly and the standards in training and he has thought 'no I am not having it and I am not accepting it'. And good on him."
"We have been sat here for years as ex-players saying give your absolute all when players are not running back; we have seen Rashford and Garnacho for years stand up on that left and right-wing and not chase back when full-backs have gone past them yet keep their place in the team. No more. I want Marcus Rashford and Garnacho to come back stronger, take the message of going to train at the training ground on a Sunday when no one else is there, I want them to take it in the right spirit and become the very best players for Manchester United."
The Red Devils remain 13th in the league table and are up against Bournemouth in the league next. They face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday before hosting the Cherries on Sunday.
