American influencer Jake Paul has picked Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as his favorite football player. He sent a message to IShowSpeed, apologizing to the YouTube sensation as he picked the Argentine superstar.

Although Messi and Ronaldo have entered the twilight stages of their careers, they still continue to perform at elite levels in their respective leagues.

The Argentine maestro, who plies his trade in the United States, scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami last season. He won his 46th career trophy last term after lifting the MLS Supporters' Shield with the Herons.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been in excellent goalscoring form this season at Al-Nassr, netting 17 times in 20 appearances for the Saudi Pro League side.

The debate on who among the superstar duo is the greatest of all time has been a hot topic that's taken over the footballing world over the years. Jake Paul has now made his choice. He picked Lionel Messi, highlighting the Argentine's World Cup triumph at the 2022 edition in Qatar.

When asked about La Albiceleste in an interview with Argentine outlet Ole, Paul said (via Bola Vip):

“They’re amazing. I think [they] winning the World Cup, it gave me chills to see Messi bring that home. It was amazing."

When asked whether Messi is his favorite, Paul added, apologizing to IShowSpeed, who's famously known as a massive Cristiano Ronaldo fan.

"I think so. Sorry, Speed. But I love Messi,” he added.

Lionel Messi will next feature for Inter Miami against New York City FC in the opening game of the 2025 MLS season on February 22.

Ex-Manchester United star urges Cristiano Ronaldo to join MLS and reunite with Lionel Messi

Wes Brown has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Al Nassr and move to the MLS to reunite with long-term rival Lionel Messi. He hopes to see the pair face each other as opponents in the same league again.

Ronaldo and Messi were at the peak of their rivalry during their time together in LaLiga. Their extraordinary and consistent form for Real Madrid and Barcelona over the years made El Clasicos ever so entertaining.

And Brown believes the Portugal captain, who's succeeded in multiple elite leagues across Europe, should move to the US and roll back the years.

The former Manchester United defender said via Goal:

“Cristiano Ronaldo has to go to America, especially given that Lionel Messi is there as well. I’ve seen Ronaldo play a few times and it’s been a good standard, he is scoring goals and looking so fit for his age, still sprinting at 40.
"He wants to play for as long as he can, and he’s a player who can hand-pick where he wants to play next. He won’t hang his boots up anytime soon and will keep breaking records."
"He has been to a few places now and I’d love to see him add America to the list. He has been scoring more goals than Messi of late and it would be great to see them go head-to-head again," Brown added.
