Jamie Carragher has urged Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim to make a slight tactical adjustment ahead of the Red Devils' clash against Liverpool on Sunday, January 5. The Manchester outfit head into this game on the back of four consecutive defeats across competitions.

While the former Reds defender says Amorim should stick to his 3-4-2-1 formation, he believes there's room for a small tweak in midfield. Speaking to the Telegraph, he said (via Metro):

"There are already calls for Amorim to change his formation, but he cannot be expected to shift his philosophy after 11 games. If Amorim switched to four at the back in response to United’s results it would undermine his reason for being there.
"If there is a common theme between the troubles of Tottenham and United it is how both are so vulnerable without the ball. You can still make changes within a formation or playing philosophy based on the players at your disposal."

He added:

"Could Amorim go to Anfield this weekend and play three central midfielders instead of two, for example? It would be a compromise taking into account the strength of opposition, not a big change of direction.
"There is no right or wrong way to play the game, but every manager must be prepared to make tweaks at certain times."

Manchester United are in desperate need of points, currently placed 14th in the Premier League standings, seven points clear of the drop zone. Meanwhile, Liverpool are top of the table, six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

Joe Cole has predicted Liverpool to defeat Manchester United 2-1 at Anfield when the two sides meet on Sunday. He believes that the Red Devils could nick a goal on the counter but will largely see the game played in their own half.

The Merseysiders head into this tie on the back of a resounding 5-0 victory against West Ham United on December 29. Predicting this tie in favor of Arne Slot and Co., he said (via Metro):

"It’s a derby and it’s a one-off game. Manchester United will turn up, make a game of it, but Liverpool will win 2-1."

To make matters worse for Ruben Amorim, Mohamed Salah has been on fire this season and even netted in the win against the Hammers last week. The Egyptian has scored 20 goals and bagged 17 assists in 26 appearances across competitions so far.
