Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reckons Chelsea have made a 'top-class' signing in Pedro Neto. The Blues signed the striker from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a reported deal worth £54 million.
Neto, 24, contributed 14 goals and 24 assists in 135 games across competitions for Wolves in five seasons - since arriving in the summer of 2019 from Lazio. Last season, he bagged three goals and 11 assists in 24 games across competitions.
Among the slew of summer signings by the Blues, Neto has received the seal of approval from Carragher, who told Sky Sports (as per PyS):
“For me, Neto has been one of those players that I think every top club has looked at, and it’s just the injury record that’s put them off not their ability. So Chelsea have a top class player. It’s just whether they can get him fit enough throughout the season.”
Neto has signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge and will wear the No. 19 shirt, as confirmed by the Blues on their website. He said on joining the club (as per BBC):
"I feel really grateful to have joined this club. I have worked really hard in my career to be here, and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt."
The Premier League giants reportedly snapped him up after two unsuccessful attempts before striking gold.
Conor Gallagher won't feature against Manchester City - Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has had quite a few last few days. After rejecting multiple contract extension offers, he was reportedly told that he was surplus to requirements.
The Blues subsequently struck a deal worth £33 million from Atletico Madrid for the English midfielder. However, with Atletico striker Samu Omorodion's move to Stamford Bridge not materialising, Gallagher was struck in a limbo.
After training on his own for a few days at a hotel in Madrid, he has been recalled by the Blues. However, new boss Enzo Maresca has said that the midfielder is not in contention to start the Premier League opener at home to Manchester City on Sunday (August 18).
"Conor is back and training a bit apart," said Maresca (as per BBC). "He is doing some medical tests and training. He won't be involved in this game."
"You know better than me that he is trying to find a solution with the club, and we will see what happens. Hopefully Conor's situation finishes with the player, the club and all the people happy."
Chelsea drew 4-4 with City at home last season, with Cole Palmer netting a 95th-minute equaliser.
