Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has waxed lyrical about Cole Palmer after the Chelsea attacker played a phenomenal long-range pass in their 2-1 win against Newcastle United. The two sides faced each other in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, October 27.
Palmer thought he had given the Blues the lead in the second minute after finishing well past Nick Pope. However, VAR ruled out his goal due to an offside in the build-up. The England international made up for this in the 18th minute after pinging a 60-yard pass into the path of Pedro Neto down the left wing. The latter then set up Nicolas Jackson with a low cross to hand Chelsea the lead.
Carragher was left impressed as he told Sky Sports (via METRO):
"This pass over 60 yards… I mean, that’s one of the best passes I’ve seen, never mind this season, but in the Premier League. Taking two or three Newcastle players out and then just on a plate for Neto, and Jackson in the right place."
Alexander Isak leveled the scores in the 32nd minute going into half-time. However, Palmer found the bottom-left corner with an excellent finish in the 47th minute to help Chelsea seal all three points. Enzo Maresca and Co. are currently fifth in the league table with 17 points from nine games.
"I love watching this kid" - Roy Keane praises Chelsea star following Newcastle win
Manchester United great Roy Keane has hailed Cole Palmer for his exceptional awareness during Chelsea's 2-1 win against Newcastle United. The 22-year-old scored one goal and provided an assist to inspire his side to victory.
From the aforementioned source, Keane said:
"Absolutely brilliant, I love watching this kid. Even his awareness when he receives the ball, he knows exactly what’s happening but the to execute the pass."
"From Palmer’s pass, he knows the space is in behind. He knows exactly what’s happening, [Gianfranco] Zola mentioned it before the game, when he gets it he knows what’s going on around him, very few players have that. Perfect pass, you just run and he’s going to pick you out."
In addition to his two goal contributions, Palmer completed 30 out of an attempted 39 passes with an accuracy of 77 percent, created one chance, and won four duels.
The Chelsea superstar has been in good form this season, netting seven goals and providing five assists in 11 appearances across competitions.
