Journalist Gastón Edul has stated that Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has an issue with his adductor muscle ahead of Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Colombia. The 25-year-old midfielder picked up an injury in La Albiceleste's 3-0 win against Chile on September 5, at Estadio Mâs Monumental.
Following a goalless first half, Argentina opened the scoring through Alexis Mac Allister in the 48th minute, who was set up by Julián Alvarez. After suffering an injury, the Liverpool midfielder had to come off the pitch and was replaced by Paulo Dybala in the 79th minute.
Julián Alvarez doubled the score for La Albiceleste in the 84th minute, followed by Paulo Dybala netting the third in second-half stoppage time.
Mac Allister had been an injury doubt prior to the clash against Chile with head coach Lionel Scaloni confirming that the 25-year-old was absent from training earlier in the week, via Liverpool Echo.

He added that the midfielder will train separately until Tuesday to be ready for La Albiceleste’s upcoming match against Colombia in the 2026 World Cup qualifier on September 10 at Estadio Metropolitano.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about Alexis Mac Allister's injury situation after the Liverpool star was susbtitited in the win against Chile. The manager also mentioned winger Nicolás González's condition and said (Liverpool Echo):
"We still don't know how Nico (Gonzalez) and Alexis are because they had discomfort, we'll see if they can play against Colombia."
Mac Allister, who made his senior debut for Argentina in 2019, has netted three goals and provided four assists in 32 appearences for his nation. He has also won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2024 Copa América, and the 2022 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions with La Albiceleste.
Liverpool will return to action after the international break at home against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, September 14. Arne Slot is expected to offer an injury update in his pre-match press conference next week.
