Manchester United legend Gordon Strachan has told Marcus Rashford to leave Old Trafford if he is not happy at the club. This comes amidst a season where the 27-year-old has scored just seven goals and provided three assists in 24 games across all competitions.
Under former manager Erik ten Hag, in the 2022-23 season, Rashford found brilliant form, scoring a career-best 30 goals and providing 10 assists in 56 games. He has been unable to rediscover that remarkable run of form, though, and Ten Hag has since been sacked.
Now under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who has managed six games, Rashford has scored three goals. However, the signs of struggle are still there, with the 27-year-old unable to impact the attack in United's recent 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.
Former midfielder Gordon Strachan has now told him to leave the club if he does not "enjoy it". Speaking to Gambling Zone, the Manchester United legend said (via Football 365):
“Well, that’s one of the problems that Man United have – we’ve just got to hold our breath for Marcus Rashford to play well.
“And we’ve just got to go through this again every season where we’ve got to hope Marcus gets better. ‘I hope he starts smiling and I hope he starts enjoying the game.’ Do me a favour. If you don’t enjoy it at the club, leave. Just leave and then we can all get on with it. You’re a good footballer, son."
He continued, addressing the fans:
“As Man United fans, do you want to just keep waiting for Marcus to do well? I think that conversation should be moved on now and just put away. You either want to play or you don’t want to play. Do me a favor, if you’re not enjoying it, do something else then.”
Manchester United are set to face neighbors Manchester City in their upcoming Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on December 15.
Manchester United consider selling Marcus Rashford: Reports
Manchester United are potentially prepared to sell Marcus Rashford in January as the club look to the transfer market to turn things around. The Red Devils are struggling to get out of the Premier League mid-table, where they have been stuck for much of the season.
Alongside making funds available for new head coach Ruben Amorim, the club have to make sales in the winter transfer window. Despite Marcus Rashford being one of the academy graduates to play in the first team for so long, they are prepared to sell him for £40 million (via Daily Mail).
However, there are no guarantees that an offer will come for Rashford, who has struggled to find form this season. Indeed, Manchester United "are not anticipating any offers". This may push the club to sell other academy graduates like Alejandro Garnacho, but the report reveals that they will look to avoid this.
