Manchester United's official social media account shared a one-word post after knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on Sunday, January 12. The two teams locked horns at the Emirates in the third round of the tournament.
The two teams arrived at the game on contrasting fortunes this season. The Gunners are second in the Premier League table after 20 games.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are 13th in the league table, 17 points behind the north London side. However, it was Manchester United who took the lead on Sunday, through Bruno Fernandes in the 52nd minute.
Unfortunately, Diogo Dalot picked up his second yellow in the 61st minute and the away side were down to 10 men. Arsenal went level a minute later through Gabriel Magalhaes before Kai Havertz took a tumble in the box in the 70th minute.
Referee Andy Madley, without the help of VAR, gave the Gunners a controversial penalty. Martin Odegaard stepped up, but Altay Bayindir saved the penalty, which proved a turning point in the game.
Ruben Amorim's men, with a man short, showed amazing resilience to keep Arsenal at bay and forced the game into extra time and then to penalties. Bayindir proved the Red Devils' savior once again, stopping Havertz's penalty, and helping his team to a stunning 5-4 win.
Following the game, Manchester United posted a one-word message on social media, stating:
"Justice."
The Red Devils will face Leicester City in the FA Cup Fourth Round tie in February.
What did Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim say about the penalty incident against Arsenal?
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim made two changes to the starting XI for the Arsenal game. Alejandro Garnacho replaced Amad Diallo and set up Bruno Fernandes for the opening goal.
Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir took over from Andre Onana. The Turkish international turned out to be the match-winner, with his penalty save proving a key point in the game.
Speaking after the win, Amorim refused to indulge in the penalty incident.
“The players told me it was not a penalty, but let’s move on. We are more resilient. More aggressive. We showed a different spirit. We are improving that aspect. The players were really tired but today was our day. I felt a connection with the fans,” said Amorim.
Manchester United face Southampton next in the Premier League, while Arsenal are looking ahead to the North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
