Atletico Madrid have joined Hansi Flick's Barcelona in the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell in the summer transfer window, as per CaughtOffside. In addition to the two LaLiga giants, Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are also considering a move for the English defender.
Mitchell joined the youth side of Crystal Palace in July 2016 from Brentford. Since then, the Englishman has made 166 appearances for Palace's senior team, bagging three goals and 11 assists across all competitions. Mitchell has started all 18 Premier League games for the Eagles this season, providing three assists and helping the side keep four clean sheets.
Aged 25, Tyrick Mitchell has also played two matches for the Three Lions. With his performance over the years, the Englishman has garnered the attention of multiple European clubs, two of which are Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. His contract with the Eagles will expire next summer, making him a free agent.
Four players are expected to leave Atletico Madrid next summer, including Axel Witsel, Cesar Azpilicueta, Reinildo Mandava, and Borja Garces. Mandava, who has fallen in the pecking order, is unlikely to receive a contract renewal. As a result, Los Colchoneros are keen to sign Mitchell as a long-term for Mandava.
The Mozambican defender joined the La Liga giants from LOSC Lille in January 2022. Since then, he has made 91 appearances for Diego Simeone's side, scoring two goals and assisting one.
Barcelona to sign midfielder on loan in the winter transfer window: Reports
Barcelona can sign a new midfielder on loan in the January transfer window, according to Diario SPORT. Hansi Flick's La Blaugrana are struggling to register Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo in their line-up for the remainder of the season.
In light of the club's financial struggles and Fair Play woes, the club was expected to keep a low profile in the January transfer window, focusing on renewals and registrations. However, as per the aforementioned report, the LaLiga giants could potentially sign a midfielder on a loan deal in January.
They will not complete any permanent deals in winter. However, Hansi Flick is keen to add more depth to the midfield, which puts pressure on the shoulders of Barcelona's sporting director Deco.
