Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal broke a 77-year-old goalscoring record with his strike in the Catalan side's 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid on Saturday, October 28. The youngster played a crucial role as the Blaugrana ended their bitter rivals' 42-game unbeaten streak, dating back to 2023.
Yamal became the youngest player to score an El Clasico goal aged just 17 years and 105 days old. He became the first 17-year-old to score in the fixture since Alfonso Navarro scored twice for La Blaugrana in their 3-2 win back in 1947 aged 17 years and 365 days old.
The Spanish teenager broke out in the 2023-24 season but failed to score an El Clasico goal in his first full season. The 17-year-old has grown into a key player for his side this season, and true to his reputation, found the net against Real Madrid.
Yamal's 77th-minute strike was his side's third of the night, and effectively put the game to bed while also putting him in the history books. With this, he took his tally for the season to five goals and six assists in only 11 LaLiga matches. The teenager helped his manager, Hansi Flick, become the first Barcelona boss to win their first El Clasico since Gerardo Martino in 2013.
Barcelona offside trap works perfectly as Real Madrid star equals unwanted record
Barcelona's defensive strategy worked to perfection in their 4-0 mauling of rivals Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. La Blaugrana employed a high defensive line to catch their opponents' pacey forwards offside, and it worked successfully.
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe scored twice, but both times was caught out by the offside line, causing both goals to be chalked off. Mbappe was caught offside eight times in the game.
Los Blancos were caught offside 12 times in total, with their eight offsides in the first half equalling a club high since records began to be taken. Surprisingly, they were undone by swift attacks from their opposition. The first and fourth Barcelona goals by Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, respectively, came from direct balls played in behind.
