Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has sent fans around the world into a frenzy after mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'Siu' celebration. The American copied the Portuguese star's celebration after his second touchdown against the Oregon Ducks on January 1 (Wednesday).
CR7's trademark 'Siu' celebration has become a global phenomenon. It has been enacted not just by fans but also celebrities and athletes across the world.
Jeremiah Smith may only be a freshman but he has already been compared with some of the best in the game. The 19-year-old blew away the Oregon Ducks on Wednesday, helping his team to a 41-21 win. He also gave fans something to cheer after mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fans took to social media to express their opinions about the incident. One opined that the Portuguese legend had choreographed the greatest celebration of all times, writing:
"Ronaldo really cooked up the greatest celly of all time."
Another added:
"Ain’t no one got pull like CR7."
One fan paid tribute to CR7's influence, quipping:
"THE INFLUENCE IS ASTRONOMICAL."
Another commented:
"Even in 2025??? The influence is crazy."
One fan insisted that it was the case of one GOAT recognizing another, writing:
"GOAT recognizes GOAT."
Another added:
"Ronaldo literally owns the streets."
Cristiano Ronaldo took his 'Siu' celebration to the Middle East in January 2023 when he joined Al-Nassr.
When did Cristiano Ronaldo first demonstrate the 'Siu' celebration?
It was previously believed that Cristiano Ronaldo had first uttered the word 'Siu' after winning the 2014 Ballon d'Or. The word means 'Yes' in Portuguese and CR7 has since outlined his thought behind the celebration.
Speaking in June 2023, as cited by GOAL, the former Real Madrid man revealed that the action happened in the spur of the moment.
"I started to say ‘si’, it’s like ‘yes’, when I was in Real Madrid. I was in the USA and we played against Chelsea and I don’t know where this is coming from, the celebration," Ronaldo said.
He continued:
"I just scored the goal and it just came out. It was just natural, to be honest. Since that, I started to do it more often and I feel like the supporters and the fans see it and they’re like ‘Cristiano, siiiiiiuuuu’. I’m like ‘wow! People are reminded of me because of it!’ So it’s good, and I’ll continue doing it like that."
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner currently plies his trade with Al-Nassr, although his contract expires this summer.
