Liverpool are set to lock horns with Manchester United for the services of Boca Juniors midfielder Kevin Zenon, according to TBR Football. The 23-year-old is equally adept at operating at left-back or the left-forward role and is expected to leave the Argentine giants in 2025.
Zenon only arrived at El Bombonera this year and has registered 35 appearances across competitions, registering four goals and seven assists. His efforts have already earned him admirers at multiple clubs across Europe.
The Argentine reportedly has a £12.7m release clause in his contract, making him a lucrative option for Liverpool and Manchester United. The Reds have welcomed Michael Edwards back at Anfield this summer as CEO of Football and are ready to make an impact in the transfer market.
Edwards has an enviable record in the transfer market, signing Mohamed Salah for £34m and securing Andy Robertson's services from Hull City for just £8m. The Merseyside giants are hoping the repeat the trick with Zenon.
However, Liverpool will face competition from Manchester United in the race for the youngster. The Red Devils have implemented multiple changes behind the scenes under new minority owners INEOS.
The results were already evident over the summer, with the Old Trafford outfit securing tremendous deals, including signing Leny Yoro ahead of Real Madrid. However, the work is hardly done and Manchester United have now set their sights on Zenon.
Manchester United and Liverpool won't have a free run at Kevin Zenon
It is clear why Kevin Zenon has popped up on the radars of Manchester United and Liverpool. The player's versatility will appeal to both clubs, with his ability to slot at left-back likely to be a bonus.
The Red Devils are already sweating on the fitness of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who have spent a considerable time on the treatment table in the past year. Meanwhile, with Andy Robertson now 30, Liverpool also need to keep an eye out for replacements.
However, there's likely to be tremendous competition for Zenon, given his affordable release clause. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also have their eyes on the Argentine, with English clubs now regularly monitoring the South American market.
Zenon also has admirers in Spain, France, and Italy, and won't be short of options if he wants to leave Boca Juniors. His suitors have to present him with a lucrative project. Interestingly, Liverpool have already taken the initiative and reportedly scouted the youngster in a recent game, as they look to win the race for his signature.
