Arne Slot has dismissed suggestions that Liverpool will rest players for their Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, January 5. He claims that the match is still a big game for them despite the Red Devils sitting 14th in the league table.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Slot stated that Ruben Amorim needs to be given time to turn things around at Manchester United. He believes that the Red Devils are much better than what the league table shows.
Slot said via Liverpool Echo:
"A strange question [about resting players]. No I don't plan to, it's a big game, for me I said it before 1st fixture and one more time, they have much better players than the league table shows. It will take a while maybe for Ruben but they will definitely go up and they are much, much better than the league table shows."
Liverpool go into the game as the league leaders with over double the amount of points as Manchester United this season. The Red Devils sit 14th in the table with 22 points, while the Reds are leading the charts with 45 points and have a game in hand.
Gary Neville wants Ruben Amorim to make changes for Manchester United in Liverpool clash
Gary Neville was on Sky Sports last week when he claimed that Manchester United could end up putting their worst performance against Liverpool. He believes that the Red Devils will need to be careful and hopes that Ruben Amorim makes changes to the starting XI on Sunday.
He said via TBR Football:
“Do we have to go to Anfield on Sunday? Do you remember in the old days when Sunday League teams wouldn’t turn up because they said the traffic was bad or a few players were unwell? Obviously, joking aside, I’ve no idea how they approach this game on Sunday. Manchester United have found this fixture very tough in recent years. The 7-0, I was there watching it to the bitter end like many Manchester United fans were. You’re fearing not necessarily of that, but you’re wondering what Ruben Amorim can do? He can point to the Manchester City performance, but I genuinely don’t know.”
“Some players may come back. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford haven’t been showing the application in training… but they are better than the players out on the pitch currently. They’ve got legs and if Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are lining up against Zirkzee or Bruno [Fernandes] in wide areas, they would probably prefer that to Garnacho and Rashford," he added.
Manchester United come into the match after a 0-2 loss to Newcastle United. Liverpool, on the other hand, are coming into the match after a stunning 5-0 win over West Ham United.
