Liverpool have been handed an injury scare as defender Ibrahima Konate appears to have picked up an injury. The Frenchman was seen holding his arm while walking out of the pitch at halftime against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, November 2.
Liverpool welcomed the Seagulls to Anfield in their 10th Premier League match of the 2024-25 campaign. While Arne Slot’s men were arguably the better side in the early minutes of the game, they trailed after 14 minutes as Ferdi Kadioglu gave the visitors the lead. The Reds tried to restore parity before the break but couldn't, and the scoreline remained 0-1 at halftime.
However, as the referee blew the halftime whistle, Konate was seen down in pain following a challenge during a Liverpool corner before the whistle was blown. The French defender looked uncomfortable as he went into the dugout while using his shirt as a makeshift sling.
He was treated as players walked down the pitch at the break and then got up to his feet before limping into the Anfield tunnel. It is unknown at the moment whether or not Konate picked up a serious injury, but manager Arne Slot replaced him with Joe Gomez after the break.
Konate has played every Premier League game for the Reds this season since he came on as a substitute against Ipswich Town. He's helped them keep four clean sheets in 10 league appearances.
Liverpool came from behind to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion
Liverpool avoided a second defeat in the Premier League this season as they came from behind to beat Brighton at Anfield on Saturday. Having gone done by 1-0 at the break, Arne Slot’s men were made to work hard to earn all three points.
However, the hosts came into the second half cranking up the pressure, and their efforts paid dividends in the 69th minute. Cody Gakpo restored parity for the Reds as he attempted to make a cross into the box. However, Darwin Nunez’s presence deceived Brighton’s goalkeeper from moving in the direction of the cross, and the ball fortuitously went into the far post.
Three minutes later, Anfield was rocking as Mohamed Salah gave his side the lead. A typical Liverpool counterattack saw Curtis Jones find Salah on the right wing. The Egyptian king then drifted into the visitors’ penalty area and curled the ball high past Verbruggen.
Arne Slot’s men held on to their lead until the final whistle was blown. The victory saw them move to the summit of the Premier League table as Manchester City lost to Bournemouth.
