Liverpool are among top European clubs including Barcelona and Real Madrid that are looking to sign teenage wonderkid Franco Mastantuono. According to Argentinian outlet River Noticias, the Reds have emerged as a suitor for the 17-year-old.

While Los Blancos are considered to be the front-runners to sign him, the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have also expressed interest. A deal is expected to be struck soon for the highly touted prospect.

The report further claims that Mastantuono's contract with the club has a €45 million release clause that can increase to €50 million if the deal is made in the last week of any transfer window. Since he is aged just 17, teams will have to wait until he turns 18 to make the move to Europe.

Mastantuono profiles as an attacking midfielder with the versatility of playing in midfield as well as further ahead. He is the third-youngest player to make an appearance in River Plate history, making his debut in January 2024. He also became the club's youngest-ever goalscorer, scoring his first goal in February 2024.

While South America has become a breeding ground for some of the world's top talents, Liverpool have not been active in recruiting players from that part of the world. However, a new system under director of football Richard Hughes and manager Arne Slot could see the Reds make investments there.

Barcelona, meanwhile, made probably the most iconic signing in this regard when they signed Neymar from Santos in 2013 for €57 million. Recently, they also signed Brazilian striker Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense.

Real Madrid have also been keen investors in South America. The signings of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Fede Valverde, and Endrick come to mind for Los Blancos.

RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons has emerged as a transfer target for a variety of top clubs across Europe. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are all interested in the player.

Currently on loan with the German side, his employers Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly willing to cash in on the player, expecting a fee of around £66 million. He has two years left on his deal with the club.

Simons could prove to be an exciting addition to a Liverpool team that has seen their midfield pivot of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister impress. His creativity could help Real Madrid solve some issues following Toni Kroos' departure while he could be a strong addition to Barcelona's talented attack.
