Liverpool are reportedly keeping their eyes on Bologna defender Sam Beukema, who is on the radar of several European giants, including Real Madrid. The Reds are in the market for a new centre-back, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the future of captain Virgil van Dijk.
Bologna defender Beukema has been with the Serie A outfit since 2023, when he joined them from AZ Alkmaar in his native Netherlands. The Dutchman has seen his influence grow in the Italian side, appearing 14 times in the league and five times in the UEFA Champions League this season.
According to TEAMtalk, Bologna will demand at least €25 million for the 26-year-old defender. Beukema is also wanted by Real Madrid, who have kept tabs on him, as well as Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus.
Beukema made 30 league appearances as they qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the 2023-24 season.
During his time as Feyenoord manager in 2021, Liverpool manager Arne Slot tried to sign the defender from Go Ahead Eagles, even speaking to him personally. The Dutch defender preferred a move to AZ Alkmaar instead, signing a five-year deal with the club. He could now be interested in teaming up with Slot at Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
Real Madrid find themselves in need of cover at centre-back following the injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba. Beukema will be a low-cost option for their club, and they may be keen to sign him in the summer.
Liverpool and Real Madrid stars make FIFPro World XI
The official FIFPro World XI for 2024 has been announced, with voting concluded for the best XI of 2024. The English Premier League and Spanish LaLiga were represented, with all 11 players coming from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is the only player not from the Cityzens or Los Blancos to make the XI. Joining him are Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal at the back, while City goalkeeper Ederson was chosen between the sticks.
The midfield picks include Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri from City, and Jude Bellingham and Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. Up front, Vinicius Jr is joined by club teammate Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City star Erling Haaland to complete the XI.
