Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have made their intentions clear amid rumors of Elon Musk taking over the club. However, the American sports giants have clarified that there is no truth in such rumors.
As per various recent reports, Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, is keen on buying a Premier League club. Liverpool, owned by US sports holding conglomerate FSG, have been named as the tycoon's preferred choice.
Musk, who owns companies like SpaceX, Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), is by far the wealthiest person in the world. His net worth (as per Forbes) is a whopping $421.2 billion, almost double that of the second-richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos ($233.5 billion).
Elon Musk's father Errol Musk recently admitted that his son wishes to buy a football club but did not name the club he is interested in. He also shared that his family has close ties with the city of Liverpool. He said, as quoted by Hindustan Times:
“Oh yes, but that doesn't mean he's buying it. He would like to, yes, obviously, anybody would want to. So would I. I can't comment on that. They'll raise the price.”
Errol Musk added:
"We were fortunate enough to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with us — my family."
As reported by Hindustan Times, a spokesperson for FSG has dismissed any speculation of selling the Merseyside club. He said:
“No truth to these rumors.”
FSG have been the majority owner of Liverpool since their takeover from Tom Hicks and George Gillett in 2010. FSG is part-owned by investment firms like RedBird Capital Partners and Arctos Sports Partners.
Fenway Sports Group, however, have sold minority stakes in the club from time to time. Dynasty Equity and NBA star Lebron James are among the minority shareholders of the Merseyside club.
Glen Johnson opens up about Trent Alexander-Arnold's situation at Liverpool
Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has opened up on Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract situation at Anfield. The creative full-back has entered the final year of his deal at the Merseyside club and his future has been subject to speculations.
Johnson, who played 200 games for the Reds between 2009 and 2015, has insisted that the club should have acted earlier to avoid the situation. He insisted the fans should not have an issue with the 26-year-old if he moves to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
The former England international said, as quoted by Tribal Football:
“It’s a really tough one. All his family live in Liverpool. But look, he's won everything. He's been great. He should not have been put in this position in the first place. No one at Liverpool can complain if he leaves because they should have re-signed him last year. And obviously, I don't think how the fans behaved towards him at the weekend helps him stay."
The former Chelsea and West Ham United full-back added
"And the criticism he gets in the UK doesn't help him stay either. Everyone wants him to stay, but then everyone's doing the opposite. And if you're getting abused in a home game, after winning everything, and then Real Madrid are saying, “we'll come and play for us”, that's going to be hard to turn down.”
Alexander-Arnold came through Liverpool's esteemed youth ranks and has already made 335 appearances for his boyhood club. He has scored 20 times and provided 85 assists for the Reds establishing himself as one of the best creators in European football.
