Liverpool are reportedly looking to add Dutchman John Heitinga to work as part of their backroom staff under new manager Arne Slot. The Dutch manager took charge of the club after Jurgen Klopp left at the end of the 2023-24 season, and is finalizing the appointments of his backroom staff.
A highly-rated manager in Dutch football, Slot will lead the Reds from the 2024-25 season after joining from Feyenoord. He won the KNVB Cup in his final season with the Dutch side, having won the Eredivisie title in his penultimate season.
According to Times Sport, John Heitinga is in line to be appointed as a first-team coach for the Reds. The former Netherlands international, who was in interim charge of struggling Dutch giants Ajax between January and June 2023, is expected to join Slot's staff.
Jurgen Klopp left Anfield together with his assistants in June, with Pep Lijnders now in charge of RB Salzburg in Austria. This has necessitated Slot to bring his own staff, and the club is now keen to make further appointments to the coaching crew.
Former Everton defender John Heitinga was once on the other side of the Merseyside divide when he played for the Toffees for five seasons. The 40-year-old spent time on the staff of his former manager at Everton, David Moyes, at West Ham last season.
Heitinga has held talks with Liverpool, having been requested by Slot, and could be appointed in the coming weeks.
Liverpool keen on England Euro 2024 star - Reports
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing England international Marc Guehi on the back of his stellar performance at Euro 2024. The Crystal Palace captain was one of England's standout performers in Germany, playing six of seven games as they finished second.
A Chelsea academy graduate, Guehi has grown into a top Premier League centre-back in his time at Selhurst Park. Liverpool are keen to sign a new centre-back after Joel Matip left the club upon the expiration of his contract at Anfield.
TEAMTalk reports the interest from Liverpool in the 24-year-old, who has a reported £65 million valuation. He has also been linked with a return to boyhood club Chelsea, while Manchester United are also among his suitors.
Guehi played just 25 times in the Premier League last season as he was plagued by knee issues. He did, however, make enough of an impression to make the squad for the Euros, where he proved his worth in the Three Lions team. He is open to joining the Reds once a deal can be agreed with his club.
