Liverpool are deliberating sending Federico Chiesa out on loan in January, according to reports. The Italian winger has attracted interest from the Serie A.

The Reds secured Chiesa's services from Juventus in the summer for a bargain £12.5 million transfer fee. His signing at such a low price came as a welcome surprise for Liverpool fans.

Chiesa has been a hot prospect in the European market after his impressive performances for Juventus and the Italy national team. He contributed 32 goals and 23 assists in 131 appearances for the Serie A side.

The winger also won the 2020 European Championships with Italy, scoring two goals and appearing in all of their fixtures in the tournament. Chiesa's signing was an exciting prospect for Liverpool for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, the 27-year-old has been sparsely used by Arne Slot this season. The Italy international has amassed just 78 minutes in three appearances across competitions so far.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercatio (via TEAMtalk), Liverpool are now weighing up a loan exit for Federico Chiesa in the January transfer window. The report claims that Inter Milan and Roma are interested in his services, meaning the Italian could return to the Serie A for the second half of the season.

Chiesa signed a four-year deal with the Merseysiders in the summer. He has yet to make a start in the Premier League or the Champions League this season.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot explains Federico Chiesa's lack of minutes this season

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has revealed why he hasn't used Chiesa much this season. The Dutch manager dismissed the notion that Chiesa's lack of minutes is due to his switch from the Serie A to the Premier League.

Slot explained that it was actually because the 27-year-old missed pre-season, having arrived at Anfield only after the 2024-25 campaign commenced. The Italian was signed on August 29, just before the deadline day.

Speaking before his side's 1-0 Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday (October 23), Slot said (via TEAMtalk):

"With Federico, it's a bit more simple, although it is difficult, it is a bit more simple to explain. He missed pre-season, I said this many times, and going to a league that is a higher intensity than Serie A, we just faced two Italian teams so I can say this now."
"That makes it difficult for him to make the step towards the intensity levels to where the rest of the team is at the moment. It has not so much to do with the Italian league or the Premier League but so much to do with him missing the entire pre-season," he added.

Slot added that he felt bad for Chiesa but remains hopeful that the Italian forward will play a bigger role in the future.
