Pundit Roy Keane has questioned the mentality of the Arsenal team in the aftermath of their entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool on October 27. The Gunners dropped points for a second straight league game, with the draw coming after their defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.
Arsenal's title hopes took a serious hit as they bowed to a damaging 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth after playing over an hour with 10 men. Back in front of their fans, they were undone by a late leveler from Mohamed Salah and missed a chance to move to within one point of the Reds.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane was on punditry duties with Sky Sports, and he spoke about the mentality shown by the Gunners in the game. He questioned the reasoning behind their decision to sit back instead of looking to kill off the game when they were 2-1 up.
“I’m starting to worry about this Arsenal mentality — you’re 2-1 up, I’m still looking at it like, ‘Go on & win the game’. When they get themselves in front, they sit back in. Liverpool were there for the taking," he said (via @afcstuff)
Mohamed Salah equalised for Arne Slot's side in the 81st minute after a period of sustained Liverpool pressure. The Reds avoided a second league defeat of the campaign but lost their place at the summit of the standings.
Arsenal's latest result leaves them in third, five points adrift of leaders Manchester City and four behind Liverpool after nine rounds of matches in the league. They are level on points with fourth-placed Aston Villa and one point above Chelsea in fifth.
Arsenal dealt injury blows in Liverpool stalemate
Arsenal suffered further injury heartache in their 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool in the Premier League at the Emirates. The Gunners lost two key players to injury, having already lost a couple of players in recent weeks.
Mikel Arteta's side began the game with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, and Martin Odegaard all sidelined through injury, and William Saliba suspended. They scored twice in the first half, with goals from Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino sandwiching one from Virgil Van Dijk for Arne Slot's side.
Just nine minutes into the second half, Gabriel Magalhaes had to be withdrawn with an apparent knee injury, with Jakub Kiwior taking his place. Dutch defender Jurrien Timber soon joined Gabriel in leaving the pitch with an injury in the 76th minute, with Myles Lewis-Skelly replacing him.
