Football pundit Graeme Souness has urged Marcus Rashford to leave Manchester United this summer to revive his career. The Liverpool legend acknowledged that being a local boy, it would make more sense for the Englishman to stay put, but felt these were not' normal circumstances' and so he should leave.
Talking on talkSPORT, Souness claimed that Rashford's career has stalled at Old Trafford and he looks unhappy on the pitch. The former footballer said:
"Under normal circumstances, you don't leave Manchester United to go to PSG. He is from Manchester, it is his team, but for his improvement, I think he should leave. He has been in the first team for five years, and he has had two good years.
"Why has he had only two good years? You start off. It should be a natural progression. I am not just talking about goalscoring, but his all-round play. It looks like he is an unhappy boy. It looks like he is carrying an enormous weight on his shoulders."
Rashford scored just seven goals in 33 Premier League matches in the recently concluded season for Manchester United while assisting twice. He has also scored a goal in the FA Cup and provided an assist.
Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to reassess his personal support staff
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand advised Marcus Rashford to reassess his personal support staff and take tough decisions if needed. Ferdinand said on Stick to Football podcast:
"I think it's a pivotal moment in his career now, he's not a kid anymore. I think there's a big decision to make, from him. He's got to look at who's around him, who are the external people? Are they the right people? Are they enabling him to make excuses for himself behind closed doors? Or are they saying 'look at yourself and be accountable for what you are doing'?
"He needs to look at that and own that and make big decisions. He might need to go 'you know what, I'll get rid of them and stay in Manchester, or I've got to leave Manchester and get rid of those people'."
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Barcelona have been linked with the England international but manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that the forward is not for sale.
