Fans on X reckon Cristiano Ronaldo didn't deserve to be crowned the 2024 Best Middle East Player after he was handed the award at the Globe Soccer Awards. This occurred during the 14th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Friday, December 27.
Cristiano Ronaldo retained the individual award after winning it during last year's edition. The 39-year-old had an excellent 2023-24 season for Al-Nassr, garnering 44 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances across competitions. He also won the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot with 35 league goals, ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic (28) and Fashion Sakala (19).
However, fans were unhappy due to Ronaldo failing to inspire Al-Nassr to silverware last season. They finished second in the league to rivals Al-Hilal and failed to capture either the AFC Champions League, Saudi Super Cup, or King Cup of Champions.
One fan posted:
"No way he deserves this. No way. Done nothing in SA"
Another fan tweeted:
"Making up awards just for him"
Other fans reacted below:
"Why not Benzema, this guy scored most goals on penalties," one fan questioned
"okay, so Ronaldo can win best player without winning a single trophy & his fans will call it deserved. But when Messi wins the MVP by actually winning trophies, his team’s top scorer & assists, while breaking the MLS record for most points it’s rigged," another commented
"Mitrovic robbed," one fan insisted
"What about players from the teams that actually won the leagues and cups so far," another added
"Fraud his way to another award when his team clearly didn’t win any trophy nor were they the best team," one fan tweeted
