Real Madrid star expected to return in March after a lengthy injury spell: Reports
Real Madrid defender David Alaba is expected to return to team training in January. But he is unlikely to return to action for the La Liga giants before March, as per Rodra P of Relevo.
The Austrian defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Los Blancos' 4-1 victory over Villarreal in December 2023. The ACL tear also caused a significant problem in his meniscus, reducing cartilage in Alaba's knee, and causing the bones to rub together.
The La Liga giants are concerned about whether the former Bayern Munich defender can regain his pre-injury form. He was expected to return to action in October after the 2024 European Championships but it did not happen because Alaba suffered a setback in his recovery.
The coaching staff at Santiago Bernabeu are confident that the 32-year-old will make his return to Carlo Ancelotti's side in March. However, Los Blancos are still keen to sign new defenders and have Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk on their transfer radar.
