Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez, according to reports. Ruben Amorim has given the green light for the club to sign him in January.
Amorim arrived at Old Trafford last month after the Red Devils parted ways with Erik ten Hag. The former Sporting CP boss has recorded three wins, two losses, and a draw so far.
The Portuguese manager will certainly be keen to reinforce his squad as he aims to bring Manchester United back to winning ways. One position has already been identified ahead of the January window.
Left-back has been a problem position for Manchester United recently, with Luke Shaw struggling to remain fit. The England international missed the majority of last season due to muscle and thigh injuries and United saw a lot of rotation at left-back.
This term, Shaw's injury issues continue, with the defender registering just three appearances so far. Manchester United have now set their sights on Girona's 23-year-old Gutierrez as a solution, according to TEAMtalk (via The Hard Tackle).
The Real Madrid academy graduate, who departed the Spanish capital for Girona in 2022, has been a regular starter for the Catalonian outfit. He has contributed six goals and 16 assists in 98 appearances for the club.
Gutierrez's contract with Girona runs until 2027 and has a €35 million release clause but 50% of that fee would be guaranteed to Real Madrid. However, Gutierrez reportedly desires an exit, and Manchester United are determined to secure his services in January having received Amorim's approval.
"Both teams have been really bad" - Chris Sutton predicts Manchester United vs Manchester City
Chris Sutton has backed Manchester City to secure all three points against Manchester United this Sunday (December 15) despite their terrible form recently.
Pep Guardiola's side have suffered seven defeats in their last 10 games. The Cityzens have endured their worst run ever under the six-time Premier League-winning manager.
While the English champions seem to be falling apart, Sutton believes they will bounce back in the Manchester derby at the Etihad this weekend. He predicted a 3-1 scoreline in favor of City while telling BBC Sport:
"Basically, both teams have been really bad, so what on earth do I go for here? In the recent past I have always gone with City in Manchester derbies and, while Amorim beat them with Sporting, you have to remember City could have been a few goals up by half-time in that game."
"So, I am going to go with City to win at home and maybe rejuvenate Pep before Christmas."
The former Chelsea forward added:
"Speaking of stats, I have got a good one for you - United never lost three league games in a row in more than two years under Ten Hag, but Amorim will manage that in less than a month if he is beaten here."
