Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim provides squad fitness update ahead of Manchester derby

Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim has provided a squad fitness update ahead of the Manchester Derby. The Red Devils will take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, December 15.

Amorim provided a positive squad update in a press conference ahead of the clash against City. He said (via Centredevils on X):

"But I think everyone is going to be fit and ready to win the game. (Jonny Evans?) Yeah, he's training already."

Evans has missed Manchester United's last six games across all competitions and his potential return could be seen as a big boost in defense.

Manchester United will be looking to capitalize on City's poor run of form having won just one of their last 10 games across all competitions. Manchester City, meanwhile, will be looking to stage a comeback by defeating their local rivals.

Several United and City players have suffered numerous injury setbacks in the ongoing 2024-25 campaign. However, a win for either of the two teams could be a huge boost as both teams have been inconsistent this season.

The Red Devils have registered 19 points from 15 Premier League games and are 13th in the standings. Meanwhile, Manchester City have secured 27 points from 15 league games and are ranked fourth in the standings.

Manchester United are looking to sign Miguel Gutierrez from Girona, according to TEAMTALK (via Transfer News Live on X). This latest development could be a strategic move to strengthen the left-back position.

United's first-choice left-back option, Luke Shaw, has been struggling with his fitness since the start of the campaign. Meanwhile, the second-choice option Tyrell Malacia, has only managed to register three appearances for the first team this season.

The Red Devils' interest in signing Gutierrez could be a move to bolster the depth at left-back. As a left-back, Gutierrez has had a bright start to the 2024-25 campaign. He has scored two goals and registered three assists in 22 games across all competitions.

If the deal goes through, his proficiency to feature as a left-midfielder could enhance Amorim's plans of implementing the 3-4-2-1 pattern. The Spaniard is contracted at Girona till June 2027, and he's valued at €25 million by Transfermarkt.
