Manchester United are preparing an offer to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams as a replacement for out-of-favour Marcus Rashford, as per El Nacional. Rashford appears to be out of the plans of head coach Ruben Amorim, having been left out of their squad for the Manchester derby.
United fans received a major shock when the team to face Manchester City was announced, and one of the club's highest earners, Rashford, was excluded from the matchday squad. Reports have indicated that the club is prepared to move on from the 27-year-old forward who has struggled for form since the start of the 2023-24 season.
According to the report, the Red Devils have identified Spain international Williams as a target to replace Rashford and are willing to move for him. The 22-year-old reportedly has a release clause of around €58 million and the Premier League side have approached his representatives.
Nico Williams is widely regarded as one of the finest young forwards in European football, having enjoyed a hugely successful 2023-24 season. The Spaniard was pivotal for his country in their Euro 2024 triumph, scoring in the final against England. He also helped his boyhood club win the Copa del Rey and qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
Williams has admirers from all over Europe and was close to joining Barcelona after the conclusion of the Euros over the summer. The Spanish giants remain interested in the youngster, as are the likes of Manchester City and PSG. The forward is expected to move in 2025, having chosen to remain in Bilbao despite interest from other clubs in the summer.
