Manchester United fans think they've found a gem in Leny Yoro after seeing him in action in their 2-0 pre-season friendly win against Rangers (July 20). The French defender made his non-competitive debut after completing a reported £52 million move from LOSC Lille.
Yoro, 18, started in defense alongside Jonny Evans, 36, who made his debut two years after the Red Devils' new signing was born. The highly rated teenage center-back looked promising with his calmness in possession and relentless defending.
The France U23 international lasted until halftime before being subbed as Erik ten Hag rang a host of changes. His most memorable moment came when Rangers broke forward, and he produced an excellent block to keep them at bay.
Yoro's outing bodes well for Manchester United as he gets to grip with life at the club. He rarely put a foot wrong, as seen by his impressive statistics below:
Amad bagged the opener in the 39th minute with a superb finish and a goal he deserved amid a standout performance. Joe Hugill came on at halftime and netted his side's second in the 70th minute.
However, all eyes were on Yoro and how he'd fare in his first outing in Manchester United colors. He passed the test judging by fans' responses.
"Fantastic baller."
Another fan alluded to the French teenager keeping Rangers at bay:
"Nothing getting past Yoro today."
"He's doing his job, well impressed."
Another fan joked that the Red Devils should have paid more:
"We underpaid for him, should've been 100m."
"Bro an animal."
Another fan gave a one-word reaction:
"Generational."
One fan was similarly impressed:
"He's too good."
Another fan compared him to Rio Ferdinand:
"Looked comfortable. I know it's only 45 mins, but Yoro reminds me a little bit of a young Rio Ferdinand from his early days at West Ham."
"Give Lille another £50m."
Leny Yoro suggested Rio Ferdinand played a crucial role in convincing him to move to Manchester United
Leny Yoro named Rio Ferdinand as his favorite Manchester United legend. He spoke highly of the Red Devils former defender and shed light on the duo's conversations during his transfer saga. He told the club's official media:
"Rio Ferdinand. He's a top guy and I had the chance to meet him. A really nice guy and a great defender. During the transfer market (I spoke to him) he helped me make my choice."
Leny Yoro was unveiled as a new Manchester United player two days ago, and his growing friendship with Ferdinand was displayed. The French defender received a video call from the England legend and was given advice.
Ferdinand is one of the Red Devils' greatest-ever defenders, making 455 appearances at Old Trafford. He won 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles.
