Manchester United keen on selling 27-year-old star this summer - Reports

Manchester United are looking to offload Donny van de Beek this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils are keen on a permanent transfer for the Dutch midfielder this window.

Van de Beek arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 for a reported £35 million from Ajax. Having won the Eredivisie and reaching the Champions League semi-final during the 2018-19 campaign, Van de Beek was one of Europe's top talents at the time.

However, his career at Manchester United has been rather dismal, failing to live up to his expectations. Van de Beek has only managed 62 appearances in all competitions since at Old Trafford, recording two goals and assists apiece.

He spent four months at Everton during a brief loan spell in the 2021-22 campaign. Last season, the Dutchman joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January earlier this year.

His loan spell in Germany was subpar as well, registering eight Bundesliga appearances for the club. Van de Beek is now set to return to Manchester United and report at Carrington on Monday (July 8) for pre-season training.

According to Manchester Evening News, the club are keen on selling Van de Beek this summer as the player is certainly not a part of Erik ten Hag's plans. Both parties reportedly desire a permanent exit as well.

Van de Beek has only one year left on his contract and Manchester United are looking to cash in on the midfielder before he becomes available for a free transfer.

"I am very pleased to have reached agreement" - Manchester United extend Erik ten Hag's contract until 2026

Manchester United have confirmed in an official statement on their website that the y have extended Erik ten Hag's contract until June 2026.

The Dutchman's future at Old Trafford came into question at the end of last season after the Red Devils struggled to maintain form in the Premier League. Having crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages, United could only secure an eighth-place finish in the league. It was their lowest-ever finish.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority stake acquisition in the club as INEOS CEO, Ten Hag was under pressure. Reports suggested that United were searching for more suitable candidates.

However, the Red Devils have opted to keep Ten Hag until 2026. The former Ajax boss said to the club's in-house media:

"I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined."
"However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles."

The Red Devils did win the FA Cup last season to add to the Carabao Cup win from the 2022-23 season under Erik ten Hag.
