Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has named five players the Red Devils should sell in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Red Devils have endured a difficult season this time out and have already parted ways with Erik ten Hag, appointing Ruben Amorim as the new manager.
Manchester United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table having won just six of their 18 league games. With just 22 points, they sit closer to the relegation places than the Champions League places.
Former Red Devils midfielder Nicky Butt, who won six Premier League titles in 12 seasons for the club, has named five players who should be moved on. The Class of '92 member was asked in a quickfire with talkSPORT (via Give Me Sport) whether the club should keep or sell certain players.
Butt urged his former club to sell Andre Onana, Jonny Evans, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Christian Eriksen. As per Butt, Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford should all be kept.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United decide to be active in January to back their new manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager comes with a whole another football philosophy than that of Erik ten Hag and favors a 3-4-2-1 system.
Manchester United defender highlights the main difference between Rubem Amorim and Erik ten Hag
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has claimed that Ruben Amorim comes with a completely different footballing principle to that of Erik ten Hag. Amorim took charge of the Red Devils in November but has not been able to inspire the Red Devils towards much improvement.
Amorim has lost five of his first 10 games in charge at Old Trafford, winning four times and drawing one. Harry Maguire, however, believes that the Portuguese manager will be able to turn things around for them. Maguire told Sky Sports:
"The thing is with the managers and the styles, it is not like they have come in and they have similar styles. They are the total opposite in terms of what they want and what they demand. So the transition period is going to be tough."
The England international added:
"We all have great belief in the manager and all his coaching staff. I am sure things are going to turn around. He knows exactly what he needs to do to get this club back. He has come in and done everything he needs to do. He is really demanding."
The former Manchester United captain concluded:
"He is a winner, so I am sure he will be because he hates losing games. It is frustrating. We want to win football matches and make our fans happy because so far this season it has not been good enough."
The Red Devils have some tricky set of fixtures on their hands against Newcastle United, Liverpool and Arsenal in their next three games.
